New Subject

I have found that just researching and comparing prefabricated homes is very dry and quite a broad subject.

I will still be doing research involving prefabricated homes but i am shifting my sights more to the net-zero side of things. My research will focus on creating net-zero bunkhouses for work camps. Achieving net zero shouldn't be too big of a problem considering the bunkhouses will mainly just need lighting and heat, instead the problems will arise in the cost. If a cost effective net-zero bunkhouse could be created it would eliminate the need for generators and power lines and create an even more mobile camp.

  1. I like the new topic. You now have a real application for the research. I wonder if this would still qualify for the solar decathalon?

  2. I have found some sites that you might find useful. http://www.northerntrailer.com/default.htm http://www.halstonhomes.com/

Some of these may be some biased sources, but have a look.
I like your new topic. If you are looking at bunhouses, the location will also affect the outcome of your results too.

  3. Hey Dale

So i was looking into the solar decathalon and i dont think the application i am doing would qualify. The solar decathalon is all about creating a solar powered house. Most of the points given in the contest involve luxuries which woulod most likely not be located in these bunk houses. In work camps things like cooking and entertainment would most likely be located in a seperate building.

  4. Hey Ellissa

    Thanks for the sites.
And yes the location will make quite a difference in the overall cost and energy consumption of the building. I will make sure to take that into consideration during my research.
